why Lebanese migrants came to Australia
Lebanese migrants have been coming to Australia since the mid 19th century. Lebanese migrants mostly came in three waves, the first wave was around 1880 to 1920, the second wave was from 1947 to 1975, and the third wave was after 1976. The main reason Lebanese people migrated to Australia was because of the civil war in 1976. Lebanese people experienced prosperity and political turmoil. This resulted in much of the rural population to become poor and to leave their villages, to seek work in Australia or other countries. The Lebanese migrants in the first two waves were majority Christian as the last wave was majority Muslim. The first two waves were predominantly refugees whilst the last wave was predominantly migrants.
Most of the Lebanese people would arrive in Australia and get jobs as mainly shop keepers or working in manufacturing industries (most common jobs for Lebanese migrants).
