Coming to Australia might seem easy these days, for some it just an airplane ticket. However it was not that easy for the thousands of migrants that travelled from the middle east to Australia. Not only was it not easy but it was difficult to fit in once in Australia. Today it seems easier to fit in but wherever there in difference there is conflict. This does not only occur to Lebanese people, but to other races once moving to Australia.
There were many challengers faced with coming to Australia, a major one would be leaving your home country and in many cases your family to travel to an unknown foreign country. Many Lebanese people sold everything for a chance of a better life in Australia. Once Lebanese people migrated to Australia there was no stability of staying which mean no guarantee of a home. Another challenge faced was the stereotype that most Lebanese people are terrorists or out to cause trouble. So once arrived in Australia even if accepted they faced barriers with fitting in with other children or adults.
If coming to Australia as an immigrant in the 19th century Lebanese people were not given Medicare, government benefits and unable to work legally because of not being able to get a tax file number. These benefits will be given after becoming an Australian citizen. Lebanese people came for opportunities in a great country that had no war at the time, was full of different cultures and a country that accepted different people. For Lebanese people coming to a country without war and with more jobs available was a chance of a new life. Many were forced to leave there children until receiving enough money to bring them to Australia legally.
